Literature

Literature has played a crucial role in my growth as a student and a writer; it has also helped me realize that I want to continue pursuing the humanities in the academic realm. Literature was woven into the fabric of my Hutchins education; each one of my lower-division and upper-division seminars had a meaningful and impactful book. The three main courses that I feel were key in shaping my education on literature though, are: LIBS 321A: James Baldwin, LIBS 320C: Latinx Literature, and my own independent study project: Feminist Perspectives on 21st Century Literature.

LIBS 321A: James Baldwin

Left: An essay inspired by James Baldwin's many works.

Right: An essay comparing the Netflix show, When They See Us to James Baldwin's works.

LIBS 320C: Latinx Literature

In this course we read The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio; this essay is an exploration of the topics brought up in this book, and the social and political context in which immigration policy exists in the United States.

LIBS 410:

Independent Study

Feminist Perspectives on 21st Century Literature

Left: Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo

Right: The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
